Special Weather Statement issued August 11 at 12:52AM MST by NWS Phoenix AZAt 1252 AM MST, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm over
Piestewa Peak Park, or near Phoenix, moving northwest at 5 mph.
HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph.
SOURCE...Radar indicated.
IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around
unsecured objects.
Locations impacted include...
Phoenix, Glendale, Scottsdale, Paradise Valley, Piestewa Peak Park,
Deer Valley Airport, Downtown Glendale, Metro Center, Camelback
Mountain, and North Mountain Park.
This includes the following highways...
AZ Interstate 10 near mile marker 147.
AZ Interstate 17 between mile markers 203 and 214.
AZ Route 51 between mile markers 1 and 15.

rainfall is expected.

* WHEN...Until 600 AM MST.
* IMPACTS...Rises in small streams and normally dry arroyos. Water
over low-water crossings.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 256 AM MST, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to
thunderstorms. This will cause arroyo and small stream flooding.
Up to 1 inch of rain has fallen.
- Additional rainfall amounts up to 1 inch are expected over the
area. This additional rain will result in minor flooding.
- Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Buckeye, Tonopah, Aguila and Gladden.

Safety instructions
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.
